Several members of the PPI team attended the SEMPO Atlanta event, “The Future of Web Analytics”. Three speakers provided great insights on analytics to the packed house at the Google office in Atlanta. SEMPO members join us via webcast from Chicago, New York, and Santa Monica. Provided all the opportunities for a huge technology fail, the evening went remarkably well. Also, it was great to meet SEMPO Global president, Chris Boggs. As search engine marketers, we have to follow a lot of Google’s rules for organic rankings, pay-per-click, quality scores, algorithm changes – the list is long and it makes me a little tired to think about it.
So, it was particularly inspiring to see that Google is focusing on the softer side of the business – how to be a better boss. They came up with this set of rules to “engineer better managers.”
While Google does a lot of things that just make me scratch my head, this makes total sense. Yeah, I know – a lot of this is simple Management 301 kind of stuff. However, in the “keep-all-the-plates-spinning” mode most of us live and work in, these are the things that are often pushed down the priority list.
